Kick- Bhai Ki Dhoom

The story is a bit convoluted to explain. In short, there is Devi Lal Prasad a good guy who does dare devil stuff just for kicks and Devil a bad guy and of course both are the same person. But the bad guy can’t actually be bad can he? So why does the good guy become a bad guy etc. ,etc make up the movie.

The story is not all that bad but suffers mainly due to odd jumps and patchy editing. The main problem is an abrupt flashback that not only changes the mood considerably and slows down the pace but ends up totally confusing you for a while. Its as if the director realized suddenly that  “Arre this is the most important part and hum to bhool hi gaye! Chalo yahan daal do!”  I also did not understand Devi Lal’s schizophrenic behavior when he goes to meet his future dad-in-law and since that is the turning point in the story it was a bit strange to make it so lame. So the story loops a bit but doesn’t become boring because of a few well times laughs and some good action sequences. Pre-interval its all romance and fun and games and post interval there is a solid bit of action aided by the entry of a first class villain act by Nawazzudin Siddique.
Kick Movie Review

Salman is awesome and gives you full value for your money. He lights up the screen every time he is on it (which is most of the film) and makes you realize what a true star he is.  Randeep Hooda as the police guy chasing him and Nawazzudin are superb supports. Even Jacqueline does a good job and sizzles in a totally awesome dance sequence in Jhumme ki raat hai. Saurabh Shukla, Mithunda and Archana Puran Singh provide good support to the main star cast.

Overall, Kick is an entertaining movie to watch. The story has a few good twists, the villain has a signature popping sound that is used to good effect and Salman gives you enough reasons to continue to be his fan.  Can take kids. Enjoy your weekend and Eid Mubarak!

Amit Sahni Ki List- A Crap Show

'Amit Sahni Ki List' is a story of Amit (Vir Das) who, after getting dumped by his first girlfriend decides to make a list of all the qualities he seeks in a perfect girl. Amit keeps hunting for his perfect girl based on the list he made but fails miserably. Finally, comes Mala (Vega Tomotia), who is totally opposite of what Amit is, and later they get engaged. After the engagement, enters Devika (Anindita Nayar) who is the perfect dream girl Amit has been waiting for as per his list. What happens next is what the entire film is all about.

Amit Sahni Ki List Movie Review

Actor Vir Das started his film career by doing one scene in Akshay Kumar - Katrina Kaif starrer film 'Namaste London'. That one scene opposite Rishi Kapoor was loved by film lovers and thus in the following years, we witnessed the gradual growth of his screen appearance which recently reached to hero based roles. Very few actors like Mumtaz, Mithun Chakraborty, Irrfan Khan, K.K Menon, Nawazuddin and a few more have achieved stardom by going through this sort of transformation from a one scene to lead roles in Hindi films. Along with films, Vir is also known for his superb stand up acts, which displays his brilliant comic timing. These comic antics were eventually displayed in films like 'Delhi Belly', 'Go Goa Gone' and few more. Thus, whenever Vir did a lead role one expected the film to be an out and out comical entertainer. Sadly, his choice of films doesn't do justice to his comical power, but looking at the promo of his latest film 'Amit Sahni Ki List', looks like finally, he is in his comfort zone and will please his fans by giving a good rom-com. So let's find out, whether 'Amit Sahni Ki List' will manage to do justice to the potential of Vir Das or might end up among those films which fails to tickle the funny bone.

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Review

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Review

Our Hindi cinema could be subdivided into the certain eras related to some cult classic films, for eg. 'Mughal-E-Azam' era, 'Sholay' era or even 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' and few more. The reason for such division is not due to the super success of these cult classic films, but also that these movies inspired many more films during that period which had a strong hangover of these films. Speaking about 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', it kept inspiring many romantic comedy types of films in the 90's and early 2000 era and some traces could be seen in some of the recent films like 'Heropanti' and few more. Few films managed to end up on a decent note, but rest others sank as quickly as they could, though none of these films could match up to the magic of the path breaking film. 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' from the Karan Johar banner seems to be one another such film which has high influence of 'DDLJ' with a fresh pair of talented actors associated with it. So let's find out, whether 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' will manage to match up to the level of the cult classic film or might be another half baked product trying to encash over the curiosity factor attached to it.

'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' is a story of Kavya (Alia Bhatt) who wants to buy a designer dress for her marriage without taking any help from her father (Ashutosh Rana). Kavya comes to Delhi to buy the dress on her own and in that process meets Humpty (Varun Dhawan), who eventually helps her a lot. After a short while, both of them fall in love with each other. Kavya returns back to her home and Humpty follows her back in order to win the hearts of her family members. But things do not go as Humpty had planned and what happens next is what the entire film is all about.

Revolver Rani Movie Review

Revolver Rani Review

After giving, a successful role in 'Tanu Weds Manu' and 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai', actress Kangana Ranaut gave back-to-back bad to weak films in the last couple of years. 'Rajjo' was a perfect example of her careers lowest phase, but just like a spring, she bounced back with the super success of her last released film 'Queen'. Her performance in 'Queen' surpasses many amazing performances of her contemporary actors and their power packed performances in award winning films. Cine lovers wanted to see more of this talented actress and thus right from the first wacky promo of 'Revolver Rani' the expectation levels became quite high. The success of 'Queen' will definitely help 'Revolver Rani' to gain a preference among the multi releases in this particular week, but eventually it's fate will make it run over the box office. So let us find out, whether 'Revolver Rani' will manage to give us another power packed performance from Kangana or might end up proving that 'Queen' was just a fluke among Kangana's bad career phase.

Singh Saab The Great – Movie Review

Film: “Singh Saab The Great”
Cast: Sunny Deol, Urvashi Rautela, Amrita Rao and Prakash Raj
Director: Anil Sharma
Rating: 3/5
Singh Sahab the Great poster 240x320
There is something to be said about that ‘dhaai kilo ka haath’ which Sunny Deol patented in well-made action films like “Ghatak”, “Ghayal” and “Gadar – Ek Prem Katha”. Lately, his career was eclipsed by wrong choices. Maybe, the ‘haath’ (hand) was not in the right place.
Back in form with a bang in “Singh Saab The Great”, Sunny delivers a wallop. Looking every inch the Sardar in-charge, he furnishes the film with a flair that is quite engaging. No, he doesn’t wrench off a hand-pump to thrash the goon. But yes, he does turn a static jeep from back to the front with his bare hands.
And guess what? He looks every bit convincing doing the heroic hijinks in a country certainly not meant for the weak and the infirm.
When we first meet Singh Saab (The Great) in this non-stop actioner, we are told by his on-screen aides that Singh has formed a political party called Aam People’s Party. Now, if that reminds you of a certain Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, then I am sure the resemblance is not coincidental.
God knows, we do need a change in governance and in the rampant corruption in the country. Anil Sharma’s over-zealous though never-misplaced passion to put across Sunny in a messianic mould works to a large extent. The film is an old-fashioned, very simply written morality tale between an idealistic hero and a villain who rules a backwater town with an arrogant ruthlessness that romances decadence and debauchery.
What works well for the film are the powerfully executed confrontational sequences between Sunny and the arch-villain Prakash Raj. While Sunny shows exemplary control in the inherently melodramatic milieu, Prakash Raj tries a variation on his stereotypical villainy. He comes up with a character who’s a Bihari goon who can at the drop of a hat, break into a song and dance while executing the sleaziest of deeds and dialogues.
God knows, we need a bit of humour in the decadence.
It’s a murky world of compromised morals out there made bearable by larger-than-life heroes who know they are up against impossible odds, and yet find a kind of subverted comfort in making their unbelievable hero-giri credible by dint of their powerful screen images.
Sunny Deol has that kind of a presence. While romancing the mean, he is also capable of infusing moments of goofy tenderness in his scenes with his screen wife, played by a pretty and reasonably watchable debutante Urvashi Rautela. Their glaring age difference is also brought to chuckling notice by a script whose USP is its determination to not act over-clever while executing an old-fashioned revenge tale.
Amrita Rao struggles to give substance to an under-written role of the narrator and journalist who seems to have only one assignment, to trail Singh Saab (The Great) through his crusade against corruption. Clearly, she’s ready to fall in love with the Missionary Man, if only the script would allow her.
You’ve seen the noble bureaucratic hero in different uniforms, take on the corrupt villain in numerous films. What works in “Singh Saab…” is the way the action scenes flow in motions of choreographed contemplation. Action directors Tinu Verma and Kanal Kannan lend a rigour to the narrative.
While the plot tends to sag under the weight of italicized cliches, the twists and turns are negotiated by the technicians with ample aplomb. The sound design is deliberately exaggerated and meant to manipulate moments of machismo. S. Gopinath’s cinematography captures the feverish flourish of men on a rampage with gusto. The art director makes innovative use of rusty-brown colours that lend a bronzed hue to the brawn festival.
It would be the easiest thing in the world to dismiss Sunny’s pronounced heroism as archaic and ‘loud’.But don’t be hasty in your judgement.
Anil Sharma and Sunny Deol’s combustive force earlier yielded the powerful “Gadar…”. This time they aspire to the same level of dramatic velocity, and succeed to an extent.
